“If
we can’t envision a better world, how can we create one?” Painting and animals are my teachers - they inspire me to explore beyond what I know and create a safe haven for me to be me. My creative journey began in London where I learned to paint ‘on the job’ creating murals and exotic finishes on walls. Though self-taught I did spend time in Italy painting wall mosaics, in China learning Chinese brushwork and Guernsey painting decorative furniture. Whilst developing these skills. I discovered the painting techniques that I now use on canvas. ‘Labeling’ my art is not important to me. The only way I know is to paint what I am drawn to, not to a market. I take seriously the energy inherent in thoughts and images. What I choose to put into my art, others take away. I never know what I am going to paint. At best, I have a place to start then it flows. Using transparent paint the image creates itself as I move into and through the painting. I work from dark to light primarily in oils, pastels, and colored pencil. My style is characterized by the use of color applied in layers of texture from which symbolism and dream-like forms emerge. Beyond this I will leave you to explore on your own. I hope that my art inspires in you an experience of our connection to realms beyond what we know, and a deeper understanding of why we need to nurture and protect wildlife and nature. |
